The small Hamlet of Chenaud is only 7 minutes by foot away and though the Mill only supplies breakfasts on request, there is a café and restaurant which supply all meals of excellent quality and very economical in price.
Chenaud has a very pretty 11th century church, a Mairie, Butchers shop open two days a week, telephone and post box.
Aubeterre, Chalais and St Aulaye are the nearest villages at only 10 minutes by car away, with all amenities.
Saint Aulaye has shops, a camping site on a man-made beach, tennis courts, target shooting, café and water sports open to the public and Chalais has a large supermarket, train station and a pretty Monday morning market every week. It boasts a large equestrian event at the beginning of August. There is a monolithic church to visit in Aubeterre and pretty café’s to relax in.
Larger historic and interesting towns are: Bergerac, Sarlat, Riberac, St. Emilon, Perigueux and the city of Bordeaux. This wonderful city boasts not only many historic buildings but all the designer label shops for the shopaholic’ visitor.
Markets
There are many daily ‘Brocantes’ throughout the region in the summer months, to attract the visitors who like to ‘rummage’ or find antiques, (please ask for a list from reception). Riberac has a large market Friday mornings and many musical events taking place regularly during the summer.
Activities
Canoes can be rented and there is a Pony club, both only 5 km away. There is a man-made beach, play park, fishing, golf and snack bar, at the lake of Jemaye (7 km away). The area of the Mill is a safe and quiet place to walk around and you can also borrow the bikes we make at your disposal, if you want to go further afield.
There is a local Vineyard near Chenaud at Puymangou if you would like to taste the local wine and Parcoul Pottery is pleased to show visitors around their factory. Please view our link ‘Syndicate d’Initiative’, the local tourist board in Saint Aulaye for all the exhibitions and tourist attractions in the area.
A trip to the Bordeaux wine region is a must.
Famous names like Saint Emilion and Pomorol are not even an hour's drive, where you can enjoy a glass of the delicious wine once you arrive.

Cricket events take place during the summer on the Chenaud-St. Aulaye cricket grounds.
